Supposedly, if you want a boy, eat more meat (the redder the better), salty snacks, and the man should drink more soda. For a girl on the other hand, both parents should eat lots of fish and vegetables, and the woman should eat as much chocolate as possible.
An even more interesting old wives’ tale is that involving the best way to make love in order to influence your baby’s gender. A few of the methods to conceive a boy include, lying down after sex and staying there for a while. Supposedly this gives the boy sperm a chance to beat the girl sperm to the egg. A few more include making love standing up, the woman staying to the left of their partner, and letting the man be the one to suggest sex. Interestingly, all these theories suggest male dominance over the woman, which was obviously best if wanting a boy. While in conceiving a girl, the focus is on the woman dominating. Such as making love with the woman on top, making sure to focus on the woman’s pleasures, and having the woman be the one to initiate sex.
Not only does superstition put emphasis on the way couples make love, but also in the timing. These next few myths are pretty far out there. Making love when there’s a quarter moon in the sky, having sex at night, conceiving on the odd days of the month, and pointing the woman’s head north during intercourse, are all guarantees that your baby will be a boy. For a girl however, have intercourse when there is a full moon, have sex in the afternoon, and try to conceive on the even days of the month.
If your not one for choosing the sex of your baby, old wives’ tales also have stories on how to simply predict whether you are having a boy or a girl. You could always use the Chinese conception chart, which determines the sex of your baby based on how old you are and what month it is. Another trick to determine the sex before conception is the needle method. Tie a needle to a string and have someone hold it about an inch above your head. If the needle swings back and forth, you will have a girl. If it swings in a circle, you will have a boy.
These “old wives’ tales”, or as some call them “myths”, have become a laughing matter for most people today. However, many people still rely on and whole-heartedly believe these methods in determining the sex of their child. Whether they work or not is for the individual to decide.
